US-based conglomerate GE has set up a dedicated production line at its Padappai facility near here for high-voltage transmission equipment.
Aimed at addressing the growing demand for high voltage transmission equipment, GE has set up a dedicated line at its Padappai facility in line with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, a company statement said today.
The dedicated 765 kV GIS line is equipped with modern assembly and testing facilities, including a high voltage test transformer of 1,000 kV for carrying Power Frequency Withstand test, it said.
“To cater to the growing demand for 765 kV GIS in India, a dedicated manufacturing line for 765 kV GIS products with advanced testing facilities has been established at our facility in Chennai,” GE T&D India Ltd Managing Director Rathin Basu said.
“We have continuously invested, localised and introduced the latest technologies in India,” he said.
The first locally produced 765kV GIS would be exported to Chile, the statement added.
