EPFO to merge duplicate UANs

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will deactivate all Universal Account Numbers (UANs) from which provident fund transfer has been made to another account having different UAN. The process will eliminate the problem of duplicate UAN.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will deactivate all Universal Account Numbers (UANs) from which provident fund transfer has been made to another account having different UAN. The process will eliminate the problem of duplicate UAN.

Members will have to apply for PF transfer from previous EPF account to the present EPF account.

Members will have to apply for PF transfer from previous EPF account to the present EPF account.

The system will identify such cases where the PF transfer has been effected from one EPF account to another, both having different UANs.

All such identified UANs from which PF transfer has been made to a PF account having different UAN will be deactivated.

This will be done for all identified UANs even when no request has been received from the member.

The mobile number would be released by the system for use by the member.

The previous member ID will be linked to the new UAN

The member will be informed about the deactivation of the UAN through SMS on the registered mobile number

The member will have to activate the new UAN to get the update status of his EPF account

If there is arrears payments by the previous employer, the system will remit against the new UAN
Duplicate UAN takes place due to wrong declaration by member/employer at the time of joining a new company

EPFO had started allotting UAN numbers to subscribers since July 2014.

Members will have to activate their UANs and manage them like any other bank account online.
