Angry over the government’s order to make installation of GPS device mandatory for all taxis, the unions of yellow and black cabs in the city will take out a march from Rajghat to Delhi Assembly on March 25 to protest against the ‘Tuglaki Farman’, a day when a two-day special session will be going on.

Taxis from all railway stations and airport will also participate in the protest-rally against the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi Government.

In order to ensure women safety, government recently ordered all taxi operators to install GPS in their vehicles, failing which fitness certificate will not be issued to them.

The government’s decision will be enforced on all types of taxis, including Radio taxis and black-and-yellow cabs, plying in different parts of the national capital.

“We will not accept this government’s order at any cost as it is just like ‘Tuglaki Farman’. We are being harassed, looted in the name of GPS. We have decided to carry out protest-rally with black flags from Rajghat to Delhi Assembly at 10 AM on March 25,” Rajendra Soni, general secretary of Delhi Pradesh Taxis’ Union, said.

Soni said in the protest march, all city’s yellow and black taxis from all railway stations- Anand Vihar, New Delhi, Old Delhi, Nizammudin, Paharganj and taxi unions of IGI Airport will also be participating.

At present, there are around 15,000 yellow and black cabs plying across the national capital.

“During protest march, taxi drivers will also install black flags on their vehicles. After the rally at Delhi Assembly where special session will be going on, we will demand from all government to immediately withdraw this order,” he also said.

According to government, taxi operators will not be issued fitness certificates unless they get Global Positioning System (GPS) installed in their vehicles.

The decision comes months after a 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a driver enlisted with the US-based cab service, Uber, in December last year inside the taxi in which GPS was not installed.

“We want to ensure women safety in all public taxis due to which we have directed all operators, including of black and yellow cabs, to first install GPS in their vehicles,” the official said, adding, the transport department will issue the fitness certificate to taxi operators only after checking installation of GPS.

“GPS will not only ensure women safety in taxis but it also will help police in case of untoward incident,” the official also said.

Honestly speaking, itz u r the one who appears to be not only stupid but also not less than any rapist if one look in to the way u r dragging the family in to it. Better understand wtz GPS is and how it can bring in police or anyone before rapee happens. If a person go to the extent of taking a chance of even getting jailed & even death penalty, GPS is not going to stop him. Instead of all these Nataks of GPS & posting a person at dark places as suggested by Sisodaya, go and ask ur Kejariwal to install CCTV & get it monitored to go and stop before rapee happens. It looks like right from top o bottom, everyone in AAP are big Nautonkis fit for nothingelse.

Lollzzzzz it looks so funny here, it appears a big bunch AAP cadre here justifying to GPS to prevent Rapesss in Cabs without any logic behind just for the sake of finding some weird idea as subsute to their POLL PROMISE OF 1.5MILLION CCTV. A ditch effort to save the face of their Nautonki leaders. The worst part is, these guys are keep on going with NUV voted those who are trying to drive some sense in to these ppl. about utility of GPS and added to it sledging too. A typical signature of AAP :P

Though GPS helps to track the Taxi, it can not be a Nakabandhi for Rapees in Delhi. AAP promised 1.5 million CCTV to protect children & women during embly election campaign even without looking to cost & avenue to provide. After elections , commingout with all these Nataks of providing GPS, posting a person at dark places, etc. Better Kejariwal once again accept the mistake instead of finding some lame excuses. Anyway Delhites are used to his apology & accept it.Though GPS helps to track the Taxi, it can not be a Nakabandhi for Rapees in Delhi. Further to previous response, as for as real problem is concerned AAP Govt. should a leavy one time security Cess or what ever they want to call it, of about Rs. 1000 per household. Probably this is good enough to instal adequate no. of CCTVs at all major junctions and remote corners. Better AAP stop luring with all those freebies & subsidies. itz not that every one need & deserve charity. Ppl. will use those money for only lavish things like Whisky, Cigerette, Drugs, Mobile, etc.

I think it's great. GPS system is not easy to stop. And I sure thay will inspect the taxi every 3 or 6 months. And the driver knows that some one is tracking them. Every develop country in the world has GPS in taxis. Isn't it good to move to next level.

looks like aaptards are two stupid .One or two cases of rape inside taxi in several years ,and making rules for all taxis without thinking that GPS systems are very costly in terms of maintainence and service .rapes happen in auto .will aaptards will do anything ? a rapist or criminal will always find a way .swcitcing of GPS is not big task when rapist wants to rape penger .How GPS will prevent rape is out of thinking . Earlier they said they will deploy lakhs of homeguards to prevent rapes .It looks aapians dont know what to do .Most Rapes happen in private cars . what aaptards will do then ? Just harrssaing common taxi drivers .

This seems to be proof of sudden changes (Even for the sake) are not accepted by society. Society of taxi drivers needed to be educated in this matter. Even spending mere 4 or 5 thousand rupees seems making those poor upset. Hmm... Let us see What solution will be gen. by AAP. I think the IIT and other engg. college students can help AAP in making GPS for even more cheaper rate.

if AAP's software for girls one click on phone for safety succeds. Then If girl is in taxi then her click can give her location and the cab location at the time of click can be compared and driver will have fear of being caught.

The government is right in enforcing the installment of GPS in cabs. These are relatively inexpensive instruments & for the sake of public safety all cabs need to install GPS instruments or lose their fitness certificate. Deterence is necessary for Delhi to shed its tag of rape capital of India. Taxiwalas must cooperate.

Women's and Children's security is of utmost important for each and every caring Indian citizen. Installing GPS will increase the safety of both sections of our society. Mere protest without evaluating the benefits is not simply acceptable.
