Clearing all the rumours about Tata Zica replacing the Indica eV2 upon launch, Tata Motors informed The Financial Express that both the cars will be sold simultaneously. While the Indica will focus on the taxi segment primarily, the Tata Zica will attract young buyers and people looking for an upmarket hatchback at an affordable price.

Scheduled to be launched in the first half of January 2016, the Tata Zica will take head on against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat and other cars in the league. Though there is no official word about its pricing, we expect it to come in the range of Rs 3.5 lakh - Rs 5 lakh.

The Tata Zica has been designed jointly by three Tata Motors studios - India, UK and Italy. This is the third all-new product under the company's HorizoNext umbrella, the first two were Zest and Bolt. With prominent character line on sides, multiple creases around the body and slightly revised new signature grille, the Tata Zica surely is one of better-looking Tata cars we have seen recently. The vehicle's cabin too looks plush and practical with dual-tone colour scheme, body-coloured air-vents and multiple storage areas.

The Tata Zica will get two all-new naturally-aspirated three-cylinder engines - a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and a 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel. While the petrol mill is claimed to churn out 84bhp and 115Nm, the all-new diesel mill is good for 69bhp and 140Nm. For people not in the know, the Zica is the first Tata car to get Tata Motors' new diesel engine family - Revotorq.

Giving prime importance to passenger safety, Tata Motors will offer the Zica with several features such as dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), corner stability control and rear parking sensors with display on infotainment screen.
