The Government of India will soon launch the new DigiLocker+, a new system, which will eliminate the need for drivers to carry all the required documents every time with them. The new system will help the drivers by carrying a soft copy of the documents such as driving license, registration copy and other relevant papers. For this, the license holders have to register and open an account in DigiLocker+ which requires an Aadhaar card number as well as your phone number.
In case of any traffic violation, the traffic police will get all the information on the vehicle as well as the driver and the challans (fines) will be filed. This initiative by the government will have a centralised registry of the vehicles. The police officials will also be able to access the account from anywhere in the country, for example verifying the driver's documents at a check-post. DigiLocker+ will initially be introduced in Delhi and Telengana and will be later implemented across the country. The transport ministry in both the mentioned states has already started issuing e-challans in the states.
In the DigiLocker+ app, all the documents will be secured and one can also access the information via their smartphone from anywhere, which will be linked to the system. Moreover, the officials will also have an app setup to verify the information of the vehicle and penalise those who violate traffic rules. With the implementation of DigiLocker+, police should be able reduce the number of traffic violations significantly. In addition, the service will also make the payment of fines more transparent, thereby reducing the practice of bribing police officials.
