Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) has introduced the Fortuner with a starting price tag of Rs 25.92 lakh. The new version of the SUV now comes with two engine options, a 2.7-litre petrol and a 2.8-litre diesel. Both engines get options of a 6-speed automatic gearbox, a 5-speed unit for the manual petrol trim and a 6-speed manual transmission for the diesel variants. Bookings and deliveries of the SUV will start from 7th November 2016.
The 2017 Toyota Fortuner will be lighter than its predecessor and shares the platform of the recently launched Toyota Innova Crysta. The petrol engine of the Toyota Fortuner generates 164hp of power at 5,200 rpm and 245Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 2,755 cc diesel unit churns out 174hp at 3,400 rpm and 420Nm between 1,200 rpm and 3,400 rpm for the manual trims and 450Nm for the automatic transmission options.
The new Fortuner will have a host of convenience and safety features including a dual zone climate control, push button start/stop, touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity, speed sensing door locks and anti-pinch function on all windows from the VX variant onwards. The SUV also gets 3 airbags, ABS with EBD, clutch start system in terms of safety, standard across the range while the higher variants would get Hill Assist, 4 additional airbags, Vehicle Stability Control or traction control in addition to the lower trims.
The new Fortuner will lock horns with the Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer.
