After the introduction of the GLA 220d 'Activity Edition', the German carmaker is set to expand its cabriolet range with the C300 and S500 cabriolet models in India. These cars would be the 10th and 11th launch in the country this year. Both cars replicate their hard-top counterparts, save the rear door and an acoustic three-layer fabric roof and would be up for sale from 9th November 2016. The soft top can be folded down in less than 20 seconds and can operate up to 50 km/h for both models.
The C300 cabriolet is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates 240hp of power and 340Nm of torque. Power to the rear wheels is sent via a 9-speed automatic transmission and the convertible can reach 100 km/h from standstill in 6.7 seconds and go onto a top speed of 250 km/h. It is expected to be available with an optional 4MATIC all-wheel drive system as well. The S500 cabriolet will be offered with a 4,663 cc V8 bi-turbo petrol motor that generates a massive 455hp power and 700Nm of torque, which is available from 1,800 rpm and is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h. This would be sold along with the S 63 AMG Cabriolet in India.
In terms of comfort, the C300 Cabriolet will be offered with a Burmester infotainment system, where the 'Frontbass' system uses the space within the cross-member and side member of the structure as a resonance chamber for an enriching audio experience. This system is also equipped with a Live Traffic Information to update the driver of real-time traffic updates. The S500 Cabriolet is also available with an optional Warmth Comfort package, which in addition to the seats, would also provide optimum temperature for the arm rest, steering wheel and doors. The climate control in the luxury convertible would also understand if the car's roof has been folded and accordingly adjust the temperature with respect to the surroundings.
