Mahindra and Mahindra has launched a new digital technology platform, DiGi SENSE 1.0. The new platform has been conceived, developed and manufactured in India in collaboration with Tech Mahindra, Bosch and Vodafone. It took around 1,80,000 km and 10,000 hours of testing to develop the new DiGI SENSE 1.0 technology. The technology helps in preventing any unauthorised use of Mahindra vehicles like tractors, trucks and construction equipment. Owners can get access to features such as creating a virtual Geo-Fencing for the tractors. If the tractors move outside this designated virtual fence without the vehicle owner's permission, the owner will get a notification on his/ her phone, computer or tablet.
Beyond this, any abuse of the vehicle too can be prevented by the help of this new technology. The owners can set an rpm limit on their vehicle and if the driver over-speeds or crosses the set rpm limit, the owner will be notified through instantly. Besides this, the new technology provides maintenance information such as change of new air filter, the health of the machine and the next due service. The technology allows for unscheduled halts to be monitored, making it useful for fleet owners.
The fleet owners can also compare and evaluate the performance of the driver and trucks via the tool. DiGi SENSE can provide real-time tracking of the vehicle en-route and suggest the optimised route and time and cost of delivery. The service can also be run vehicle diagnostics, which will help in getting the right tools in a timely manner in case of breakdown.
The DiGi SENSE is an open architecture which is flexible and is also open to third-party integration. It can be customised and is scalable to meet different future needs. This service is particularly useful for companies such as Amazon and Flipkart to track their courier delivery and optimise the cost and time involved. According to Mahindra, despite having an open architecture, the DiGi SENSE offers secure communication. With the possibility of over the air (OTA) upgrades, the technology can also be updated to support future functionalities.
It cannot be retrofitted onto existing vehicles and only new vehicles can be ordered with DiGi SENSE. The major highlight about this new technology is that it can be used in vehicles without an ECU, enabling usage in vehicles such as tractors. The new DiGi SENSE technology will initially be available in the Mahindra Jeeta and Imperio in the small commercial vehicle, the Arjun Novo in the tractor space, Mahindra Blazo in the heavy commercial vehicle and Earthmaster in the construction equipment segment. Later, the company will launch the new technology across its entire line-up in the country.
