Apple CarPlay is one of the few automotive softwares developed by a software/ IT company. This service, with increasing popularity, is now available in mass-segment vehicles such as Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Vitara Brezza. If a car is equipped with Apple CarPlay, the driver or passengers can sync their Apple device to the vehicle's infotainment system and access information such as music, navigation, calls, messages, etc, while on the go. In short, the car's display screen mirrors your phone's screen, making it easier for a user to access functions. This way the driver can use his/her phone without getting distracted.
Apple CarPlay features Siri voice that has been specially designed for the drivers. The driver can give voice commands to Siri for functions such as texting, making a call or selecting your favourite song. In order to activate Siri voice control, the driver has to press the button mounted on the steering wheel and hold it for a few seconds before giving out a voice command. Not just this, it can be used with just a press of a button on the car's touchscreen with CarPlay.
If the driver has received a missed call or a message while driving, Siri will help you read out the messages and phone calls. Moreover, you can reply to the messages by commanding Siri voice. Similarly, you can have your music list on tips. You can tell Siri, what you want to listen and it will play the songs/music from the music library. Besides this, Apple CarPlay also supports other apps such as Audiobooks, Podcasts, Stitcher and much more, which have been developed by Apple.
In India, many car manufacturers have tied up with Apple to offer CarPlay in their vehicles as a part of an infotainment system such as Mercedes-Benz, Suzuki, Audi, Skoda, etc. Existing car owners can also equip their vehicle with CarPlay with an aftermarket system from Alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer. Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5.
