Goodyear has unveiled a new concept tyre, the Goodyear Urban CrossOver, specially developed for the Lexus UX concept SUV. The concept SUV was also showcased at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The new Urban CrossOver tyres are equipped with Goodyear’s Sound Comfort Technology, which reduces noise inside the cabin. This has been achieved by using an open-cell polyurethane foam element, which has been attached to the inner surface of the tyre, resulting in dampening the tyre cavity resonance sound when the tyre rolls over a surface. The design of the tyre has been created by using Goodyear’s hi-tech laser carving technique.

David Anckaert, General Director OE Product Development EMEA at Goodyear, said, “We are proud to present this innovative concept tire for the Lexus UX concept, which confirms once again Goodyear’s experience in providing OEMs with tailor-made solutions. Our designers succeeded in developing a tire that is consistent with the car’s design philosophy, and at the same time we managed to answer the Lexus drivers’ needs for comfort, driving pleasure and safety by building on technologies currently available to consumers in our product portfolio such as Sound Comfort Technology and the RunOnFlat Technology”.

The Goodyear's Sound Comfort Technology with the chip in the tyre was also showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The integrated chip sends information like tyre pressure, temperature and the tyre identification to the vehicle’s computer. This, in turn, enhances the vehicle's stability, performance, cornering and braking. Other highlights of the new concept tyre include RunOnFlat Technology, which incorporates reinforced sidewalls and the tyre can support driving up to 80 km during a puncture.
