The Allahabad High Court has ordered Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd (IL & FS), the infrastructure company which constructed the Delhi-Noida-Direct Flyway not to charge toll tax for passenger vehicles anymore. Commercial vehicles would pay MCD toll tax, but no extra cost for using the expressway. This decision has come after 80 hearings at the court and three hikes in the toll tax at the Delhi-Noida-Direct (DND) flyway. The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) had filed a PIL seeking the scrapping of the DND toll on Nov 16, 2012.

The Public Interest Litigation filed at Allahabad High Court states that NTBCL (Noida Toll Bridge Company Ltd) has raised the toll fee more than three times and has already earned Rs 690 crore from the toll. The total project cost of Rs 408.16 crore was incurred as on 3rd March 2013 and by 31st March 2014, the toll bridge company had already earned Rs 790 crore by way of toll charges according to the returns and balance sheet of 2013-14 financial year.

The fare charges till date for DND were Rs 28 for four-wheelers and Rs 12 for two-wheelers. Commuters also had the option to apply for dedicated fast moving lanes using smart cards or RFID tags. Although, a new application, particularly of a Silver Card, which is the most affordable of the special privileges, wants the user to pay for 120 trips in advance. The total cost to a customer comes at Rs 3,025 which includes Rs 25 as admin fee for the card. In the Gold Card, a user has to spend Rs 4,000 which includes Rs 1,000 as administrative fee. In both cases the administrative fee is non-refundable.

Users of these special privileges also pay less for every time they cross the toll bridge. For four-wheelers, Rs 25 is charged instead of Rs 28 and for two-wheelers Rs 11 instead of Rs 12.
