Lamborghini Huracan

Launched in India on Friday for Rs 2.99 crore, the Huracan LP 580-2 is a two-wheeled drive version of the Italian sportscar marque’s popular Huracan coupe.

“You are about to touch one-fourth the speed of sound, it’s strongly suggested you slow down,” warns my driving instructor in the lead car, as he takes me lap after lap on the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, near Delhi. I am driving the Lamborghini Huracan and, on the circuit’s main straight—which is over a kilometre long—I touch a speed of 272 kmph. (The car, which goes from 0-100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds, has a claimed top speed of 320 kmph.)

Launched in India on Friday for Rs 2.99 crore, the Huracan LP 580-2 is a two-wheeled drive version of the Italian sportscar marque’s popular Huracan coupe.

Specifically designed and engineered for its rear-wheel drive set-up, the Huracan LP 580-2 combines dynamic new looks with a package for an enhanced and even more intense Lamborghini driving experience.

Pavan Shetty, the head of Lamborghini India “believes that India has customers who enjoy intense driving with maximum fun, which the Huracan LP 580-2 will deliver seamlessly.”

The car is powered by the naturally-aspirated V10 5.2-litre engine that sends 580 horse-powers to the rear axle. Torque (pulling power) is a huge 540 Nm, and 75% of it is available at as low as 1,000 rpm. The car’s dry weight is 1,389 kg, which is 33 kg lighter than the four-wheel-drive version, further helping acceleration cause.

While engine provides the needed might, stability is provided by intelligent weight distribution, which is biased 40% at the front and 60% at the rear, reducing inertia on the front axle. Stability is further helped by a new power management set-up, encompassing modified suspension and steering, and recalibrated stability and traction controls which connect the driver as directly as possible with the road.

The physical connection is provided by Pirelli P-Zero tyres, exclusively developed for rear-wheel drive cars. Steel brakes with aluminium brake disc calipers are light in weight and help improve cooling.

Like all Lamborghini cars, the Huracan LP 580-2 also comes with three driving modes—Strada, Sport and Corsa.

The LP 580-2 is fitted with the latest Lamborghini Infotainment System II, with a 12.3-inch high-resolution TFT instrument panel for you to enjoy.

As far as design is concerned, the Huracan LP 580-2 is clearly different from its four-wheel-drive stable mate. The front and rear have been redesigned, accenting a young, fresh and more assertive look, and also highlight the aeronautic styling.

Form follows function. The large front air intakes specifically direct the cooling air and headwind to increase down pressure on the front axle. The spoiler lip at the rear works together with the rising diffuser in the underbody to improve airflow around the rear of the car.

Like other Huracan models, the LP 580-2 also gets the cylinder deactivation feature—when full engine capacity is not required, five of the ten cylinders are temporarily deactivated by switching off one cylinder bank. And when the driver accelerates, the system switches back instantaneously to the ten-cylinder mode. So much for technology!

Lamborghini India has said the LP 580-2 is available in the full range of Huracan external and internal colours and trims.
