The Volkswagen Polo is a hatchback offered in India with a petrol and a diesel engine option. It is offered in five colour options and has a choice of alloy wheels on the higher variants. The front suspension on the Volkswagen Polo is a McPherson strut with stabiliser bar up front and semi-independent trailing arm at the rear. It is available in three variants in both engine options, Trendline, Comfortline and Highline and has a gross vehicle weight of 1,520 kg for the petrol trims and 1,620 kg for the diesel versions.

The Volkwagen Polo measures 3,971 mm in length, 1,682 mm in width, 1,469 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,469 mm. It has a fuel tank capacity of 45 litres for both engine options and has body coloured bumpers, reflectors on rear bumpers, heat insulating windscreen, integrated turn indicators on ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) as standard. The higher variants also get dual beam headlamps, cornering lamps, 15 inch steel wheels for the Comfortline version and a 15 inch alloy wheel for the Highline trim.
The interiors of the Volkswagen Polo are offered with a scratch resistant dashboard, door pockets with storage for up to 1.5 litre bottles in the front doors, sunglass holder in the glovebox, 12 V charging socket, foldable rear seat recline, dead pedal as standard. Higher variants also get aluminium finished accents on the front console, parcel tray, chrome accents and fabric 'Desert Beige' dual tone colours. The Comfortline version gets a 2 DIN audio system with Bluetooth compatibility, USB, CD, FM and SD card playback while the top end Highline trim gets a touchscreen infotainment system with voice command and MirrorLink. The base Trendline version gets a wiring harness for an aftermarket audio system.
Powering the Volkswagen Polo are two engine options, 1.2 litre MPI petrol engine and a 1.5 litre TDI diesel engine. The 1,198 cc, petrol engine generates 74 hp of power at 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm while the 1,498 cc diesel engine produces 89 hp of power at 4,200 rpm and 230 Nm of torque from 1,500 rpm to 2,500 rpm. Both engines have been tuned for the best balance between performance and fuel efficiency
Both engines offered with the Volkswagen Polo come with a 5 speed manual transmission and there is no automatic gearbox available in the standard variants of the Polo. The GT models are the ones available with DSG transmissions.
All variants of the Volkswagen Polo are offered with dual front airbags, ABS (Anti lock Braking System), immobiliser and rear fog lamps. The higher variants also get front fog lamps, anti pinch power windows and auto dimming interior rear view mirror
The rated fuel efficiency of the Volkswagen Polo is 16.47 kmpl for the petrol engine powered versions and 20.14 kmpl for the diesel engine powered variants. These mileage figures are acceptable for its segment.
