Second generation of Volvo XC60 is here and this has by far been the most sold Volvo SUV not just in India but across the world. In its first generation the Volvo XC60 spanned through nine years with almost a million units sold. Volvo Cars India claims that 30% of its India volumes come from the XC60 SUV indicating that its a highly important product for the Indian arm of the Swedish automaker. The Volvo XC60 is packed with high-end technology budled with simplicity and luxury. Volvo XC60 will be priced between Rs 55-60 lakh (Ex-showroom) and will be available only in one top-variant diesel engine option.
2018 Volvo XC60 comes to India within 7 months of its global unviel at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This vehicle is built on the SPA architecture which a modular platform that also underpins Volvo XC90, Volvo S90, Volvo V90 Cross-Country. Volvo XC60 folllows the Volvo Car’ family design philosophy but sill manages to look younger and sharper than the XC90. The new XC60 is taller, wider and shorter than its predecessor and continues to come with a strong road presence.
Volvo Cars’ India have begun the local assembly of its Volvo XC90 and while the local assembly of new XC60 is on cards the company will initially sell them by importing them from Torslanda Plant in Sweden. The design of Volvo XC60 is well-crafted, despite being an SUV the vehicle does not feel intimidating (which most of the Indian’s don’t like). Front and the rear of the SUV carries an athletic sculpture and design interprets an wanting more characteristic desire.
Unlike the last generation Volvo XC60 that was sold in three variants the new XC60 will get only the top-end Inscription trim with the D5 diesel enigne option. Volvo XC60 will be offered in three exterior colours and three different interior trims.
Volvo XC60 is powered by a 4-Cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine which is a sub-2L engine and sheds a power of 235 hp and 480 Nm of torque. Long back Volvo had committed globally not to bring in bigger engines like V6, V8 etc and since 2011 the company has spent over $11 billion on the development of new powertrain and modular platform that will also support hybrids and electric powertrain.
Volvo XC60 interiors is bright and has a sense of luxury and comfort. Obviously the space inside the cabin is not as much as you see on the Volvo XC90 but its certainly enough for a comfortable journey. The dashboard is neatly laid out and the finishing has equal touches of chrome, wood and high-quality plastics. The start-start knob and drive mode selector has chrome emblishment for premium touch and fine finishing of gearbox gives the driver a superior feel.
Volvo XC60 continues to get a large screen placed right in the middle of the dashboard. The screen is large and is easy to opearte and acts like a messeger between the passengers and the car. It supports both Apple Car Play and Google Android Auto and comes with inbuilt navigation that functions well. The engine is also mated the a 8-speed gearbox which is quick and responsive.
Volvo XC60 SUV gets premium touches like high-quality scuff plate, flag of Sweden stitched along the seat, Inscription embeded on the side cladding and even the tyres are built specifically for the Volvo Cars by Michelin.
