With the launch of new motorcycle and cars in the Indian auto market, the scooter segment will also witness new introductions. Two-wheeler manufacturers like Hero MotoCorp, TVS and Piaggio are gearing up to compete with each other in this segment. The year, 2017 has just started and will be a spectator to new launches in coming months and we have listed the scooters coming to India in 2017 and their expected prices.
Hero Duet E: The Hero Duet E was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and will be the company's first electric scooter. The scooter is likely to be designed in-house and is also likely to share its platform and technology with the upcoming Hero Leap electric scooter. The design and styling of the Duet E will be similar to a standard Duet which is currently sold in the country. The Hero Duet E is expected to be powered by an electric motor that will produce around 6 hp of power and 14 Nm of torque. Being a fully electric scooter, it can cover 65 kms on a full chanrge and can accelerate from zero to 60 kmph in 6.5 seconds. The Hero Dute E electric scooter will feature a black-coloured front apron and dual-tone rear view mirrors. Hero ZIR 150: Another new scooter that will be launched in 2017 by Hero MotorCorp will be the Hero ZIR 150 scooter. The Hero ZIR 150 will be powered by a 157.1 cc single cylinder engine that will generate around 14.1 hp of power at 8,500 rpm and 12.7 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. It is expected that the engine will deliver a fuel efficiency of 110 kmpl and will have a fuel tank capacity of 9 litres. The Hero ZIR 150 will feature dual projector headlamps, a windshield, LED turn indicators and front hydraulic disc brake. The scooter will also be equipped with telescopic shock absorbers at the fr, a swinging engine and adjustable dual shock absorbers at the rear. Other key features of the new Hero ZIR 150 include electric start, step-up and split seat options as well as a pass light switch . The company will offer the ZIR 150 in three body colours, Red, Black and Blue. Expected Price: Rs. 85,000, ex-showroom
Vespa GTS 300: The upcoming Piaggio Vespa GTS 300 is expected to be imported and will be priced around 4 lakh, ex-showroom. This will make the GTS 300 the most expensive scooter in the Vespa range as well as in the country. Similar to other Vespa scooters, the GTS 300 will also have a retro styling and will be offered with a host of features. The upcoming GTS 300 will get an analogue-digital instrument console with LCD display that will feature a fuel gauge, trip meter, odometer and clock. The Vespa GTS 300 is expected to be powered by a 278 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that will produce around 21 hp of power and 22 Nm of torque. The scooter will have a top speed of 128 kmph and it may also come with traction control and a two-channel ABS system, which is offered in the international model. For effective braking, both the wheels will be equipped with a 220 mm disc brakes, while the suspension duties will be performed by a single hydraulic shock absorbers at front and twin shock setup at the rear. Ather S340: Ather Energy, an Indian company based in Bangalore, that designs and manufactures an electric and connected scooter called S340. The company unveiled its first electric scooter, the Ather S340 in 2016 at a technology conference in Surge, Bangalore. The upcoming Ather S340 electric scooter, according to the company, will be a premium product and will be priced between the Honda Activa and the Piaggio Vespa. The scooter will enter the production stage soon and is expected to be launched in India in 2017. It will be powered by an electric motor and will use lithium-ion batteries that will be imported. The electric motor will produce around 3KW or 5KW of maximum power which will depend on the different riding modes available such as Economy or Sport, and will have a peak torque of 14 Nm. The company will also use an aluminium chassis and swingarm to reduce the overall weight of the scooter which is expected to be around 90 kg. The Ather S340 has a claimed top speed of 72 kmph with a total range of 100 km. Expected Price: Rs. 1 lakh, ex-showroom
TVS EnTorq 210 Concept and TVS EnTorq 125: TVS Motor Company displayed its concept scooters, the EnTorq 210 and EnTorq 125, at the 2016 Auto Expo. Talking about the TVS EnTorq 210, it will be based a new platform that will also underpin other models from TVS. Although, it was a concept model, we expect the scooter to be equipped with LED headlamp, smartphone integration with GPS navigation, a TFT multi-info instrument console and push button start/stop. When launched, the company might also equip the EnTorq 210 with radial tubeless tyres, disc brakes at both the ends as well as ABS. Power in the TVS EnTorq 210 is expected to be from a 212.5cc all aluminum, liquid-cooled fuel injected engine with top speed stands of 120 kmph and will have a fuel tank capacity of 8.5 litres. The TVS EnTorq 125, on the other hand, will be powered by an all-aluminium 125 cc engine paired to a CVT gearbox. The EnTorq 125 will have the fuel tank capacity as that of the EnTorq 210 scooter. The information about the scooters are scarce, but will be disclosed as the lauch comes closer.
