The year 2017 started on with a good note as it saw new launches in the form of the Royal Enfield Redditch Classic 350, Bajaj V12 and other updated models in the Indian auto market. The two-wheeler manufacturers will continue to expand its model range in the country in the different segment. However, there are some most-awaited motorcycles that will hit the Indian shores soon this year starting with the KTM 390 Duke and 200 Duke. TVS Apache RR310S/Akula The Akula turned out to be a heavily anticipated motorcycle and now its launch is closing in by the day. The most powerful motorcycle form TVS' stable, it will share its engine and suspension setup with the BMW G310R. It will be powered by a 313cc, liquid-cooled fuel injected engine that is expected to produce around 34 hp and 28 Nm of torque and will be paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The Apache RR310S is likely to be launched in June with a price tag expected to be around Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom). Honda Africa Twin: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) displayed the upcoming Africa Twin at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Honda Africa Twin is expected to be launched in India in mid-2017. When launched, the motorcycle will be sold as a CKD (Completely Knock-Down) unit, which makes it rival against the Triumph Tiger, BMW 1200GS and the Ducati Multistrada Enduro. Powering the Honda Africa Twin will be a 998 cc parallel-twin petrol engine that will generate 94 hp of power and 98 Nm of torque and will be mated to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission (DCT). This will be the first DCT unit in the segment. The upcoming motorcycle will be equipped with features such as an adjustable seat height, dual headlamps and tapered aluminum handlebar for better riding posture along with safety equipment like ABS (Anti-lock braking System) with mode switching capability or 'Adaptive rear ABS Cancelling' system and traction control system with three stages. Expected Price: Between Rs 13 lakh and 14 lakh, ex-showroom. Expected Launch Date: Mid-2017.
Kawasaki Ninja 650: Kawasaki has launched the updated version of the Ninja 650 in the international markets and will launch the 2017 Ninja 650 in India in the middle of 2017. The refreshed Kawasaki Ninja 650 will be based on the ER-6F and will get mechanical as well as electronic updates. The 2017 model will be powered by a 650cc parallel twin engine that will develop 69 hp of power and will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox with slipper clutch and standard ABS. The two-wheeler maker has made changes in the engine which will receive longer header pipes and 36 mm throttle bodies. The company has also redesigned intake and exhaust camshafts as well as brakes. This will also see an improvement in fuel economy by 6.8 percent. The new Ninja 650 will also shed some weight by 19 kg. Expected Price: Rs 5.5 lakh. Expected Launch date: Mid-2017.
BMW G 310 R: The BMW G310R is one of the most awaited motorcycles in India that is expected to be launched in April, 2017. The BMW G310R will be jointly built by TVS Motor Company and will be made in India at TVS's Hosur manufacturing plant unit from where it is likely to be exported to international markets. The power to the G310R will come from a 313 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor that will produce 34 hp of power and 28 Nm of torque and will be mated to a 6-speed transmission. The engine is expected to deliver around 30 km/l of fuel efficiency and the G310R will have a top speed of around 144 km/h. The upcoming motorcycle will also feature standard dual-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), delta shaped headlamp, front fairing, sculpted fuel tank, fully digital instrument cluster, step up rear seat and chrome finished muffler cover. When launched in India, it will be BMW's first sub-500cc motorcycle that will compete with the likes of the Mahindra Mojo and the KTM 390 Duke. Expected Price: Between Rs 1.8 and 2 lakh. DSK Benelli BN 302R: DSK Benelli will launch the 302R, a fully-faired sportbike based on the Benelli TNT 300 in March, 2017. The DSK Benelli BN 302R will be powered by a 300 cc, two-cylinder DOHC engine that will produce 36 hp of power at 12,000 rpm and 27 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm, mated to a 6-speed transmission. The motorcycle is expected to have a top speed of 170 km/h. The Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Yamaha YZF-R3 rival will feature an all-new chassis, new design and split headlamp, while the rear-end of the Benelli BN 302R will resemble the TNT 300. The upcoming model will also receive upside down fork at the front and rear monoshock suspension, front dual-disc brakes and standard ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). Expected Price: Around Rs 3 lakh. Expected Launch Date: March, 2017.
