Renault Kwid : The entry-level hatchback from Renault, the Kwid, is powered by a 796 cc petrol as well as 1.0-litre petrol unit. The smaller engine produces 52 hp of power and 72 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. With this engine, the Kwid tops the chart of being the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country as it delivers a claimed fuel economy of 25.17 kmpl. Besides the efficiency, the hatchback also features a 2-DIN touchscreen system with navigation. Price: Rs 2.64 lakh and 3.79 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi for the 0.8-litre model.
Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 : Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is an entry level car in the company's stable and is the most popular hatchback in the country. It is powered by a 796cc three-cylinder petrol motor that develops 47 hp of power and 69 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed transmission. The petrol engine gives a fuel mileage of 24.7 kmpl. The Alto 800 also comes fitted with a company fitted CNG kit, which gives more mileage than the petrol engine. The CNG fitted Alto 800 gives a fuel economy of 33.44 km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio : The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has a claimed a fuel economy of 23.1 kmpl is powered by a 998 cc petrol unit that generates 67 hp of power and 90 Nm of torque. Tata Tiago : The Tata Tiago is the latest offering by the company in the hatchback portfolio and is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that gets different driving modes, Eco and City. The engine generates 83 hp of power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm and is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol unit has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.84 kmpl. Datsun redi-GO : The Datsun redi-GO is a low-cost hatchback from the Japanese carmaker which is underpinned by the Renault Kwid's CMF-A (Common Module Family) platform, jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. The redi-GO uses a 799 cc three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 53 hp and 72 Nm of peak torque and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 25.17 kmpl, similar to the Renault Kwid.
