Lexus officially launched in the Indian passenger car market in March 2017 with four of its models and then later adding LX 450d to its lineup in May last year. Now, the luxury car brand's lineup has been extended further with the recent launch of its global flagship car, the hybrid LS 500h. Priced at Rs 1.77 crore and about Rs 1.94 for the top trim, the Lexus LS 500h also comes via the CBU route.
Now in its fifth generation, Lexus LS 500h is based on the company's new GA-L platform. It gets the signature grille at the front that marks Lexus family design language. The Lexus LS 500h is the fourth hybrid vehicle from the brand in India.
The design of the headlamp cluster that sweep towards the sides gives it an aggressive appeal, and the overall package looks rather quite up class. The sedan is 5325 mm in length, 1900 mm in width and stands tall at 1450 mm. Lexus LS 500h has a wheelbase of 3125 mm and a ground clearance of 149mm.
Lexus LS 500h comes with a 24-inch colour head-up display. The screen is divided into parts that display information support and navigation. The driver can select from five drive modes - Normal, Eco, Comfort, Sport S and Sport S+, along with a custom mode that allows drivers to save their preferred settings.
The front seats in the Lexus LS 500h have 28-way power adjustments and the rear seats have a warming function. The cabin also features a four-zone climate control.
Lexus LS 500h features a moonroof, the glass cover of which slides above the roof and creates an spacier appeal to the rear occupants. The passengers at the back get their own entertainment systems as well. The display screens can also be adjusted for easy viewing.
Lexus LS 500h is powered by 3.5L V6 petrol engine with two additional electric motors that combine to give a maximum power of 354 hp. The engine is mated to a CVT gearbox. The hybrid battery system is powered by 84 cells lithium-ion battery pack.
All the lamps at the rear are LEDs, including the lamps on the bootlid, and the sequential turn signal lamps glow in a flow. The bootlid of the Lexus LS 500h can be opened through moving the foot under the bumper, and there is 430 litres of boot space.
Only about three days ago, Lexus appointed N Raja as its new Chairman, while PB Venugopal is the president and Tadashi Sakamoto the executive vice president of the company. All three appointments are effective from January 2, 2018.
Currently, the company has four dealerships and four service centres across Indian cities. The new Lexus LS 500h hybrid luxury sedan will compete with likes of Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series and Audi A8 in the luxury sedan space.
