BMW R nine T is a modern classic from the German manufacturer and is mostly reverred for its air-cooled boxer engine and the fact that perhaps has countless customising possibilities. Jane Motorcycles, a custom moto shop in the heart of Brooklyn, has come up with their take on the 2015-model R nineT, and every possible way - it is a stunner.
Jane Motorcycles does about four-five projects every year. BMW R nine T being one of them was also put up for sale. The end result of the custom job screams of the level of attention that has been given to the details. The most difficult was to deal with the lot of wiring since modern classic do have a lot of electronics.
The team at Jane Motorcycles first removed the R nine T’s airbox, after which they moved all the electrical components that used to be under the seat, into a new, custom-made ‘shelf’ inside the stock fuel tank.
For the headlamp, Jane Motorcycles added a carbon fibre board which houses a Baja Designs Squadron Pro LED headlight. The R nine T’s also kitted with K&N filters and a full Akrapovič exhaust system.
“Routing the wires called for a lot of trimming,” the team told bikeexif, “but the bigger electrical project was the switches. BMW uses a motherboard for their handlebar mounted switches, and that makes for a lot of trouble shooting.”
The team also added a Motogadget Motoscape Pro dash, which supports all the stock functionality. And they removed the keyed ignition in favor of an RFID system from Motogadget.
The valve covers of the BMW R nine T were redone in silver to match the rest, and the tank, triple trees and swing arm were all polished. The new saddle is custom made, upholstered in-house in navy oiled cowhide.
BMW R nine T is powered by an air-cooled, twin-cylinder boxer engine that produces 110 hp. It features BMW Motorrad ABS and optional ASC automatic stability control. The R nine T allows tremendous customisation options with its open interfaces in the electronics and the end piece of the rear frame can easily be disassembled.
