12:00 PM: The Skoda Octavia will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis in India.

11:55 AM: What will be most interesting to watch at the launch will be Skoda’s post-GST pricing strategy. If priced right the Skoda Octavia could make an impressive comeback in the segment.

11:50 AM: The Skoda Octavia will come with electronically assisted steering which removes any strain from driving long hours, but it loses out on the signature driver’s car feeling. Although this does not affect the way the Octavia handles.

11:45 AM: The most popular engine however of the three is Skoda's 2.0 TDI diesel engine which is quite refined, aside from a mild diesel clatter. This will be the only engine to come with both the six-speed manual and the DSG.

11:40 AM: The new Octavia will also get some gains in the handling department with a wider track by 20mm on the 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TDI, and 30mm wider on the 1.8 TSI. The 1.8 TSI gets an independent suspension at the rear while the other models won’t.

11:35 AM: Aside from a few touches to make the interior more premium the Skoda Octavia will also get ambient lighting with 10 options to chose from. It will also be able to detect driver weariness and can steer its way out of a tight parking spot with you only controlling the accelerator and the brake.

11:30AM: The infotainment system can also be controlled through the use of a mobile application called BossConnect which allows you to manage the infotainment in-car even if you are in the backseat.

11:25 AM: On the inside, the most notable change is the infotainment system. The old touchscreen unit has gotten larger, and the click-to-activate buttons flanking the screen will make way for touch buttons. It will feature AndroidAuto, MirrorLink and Apple CarPlay in the form of cellular connectivity.

11:15 AM: Minor cosmetic nips aside, however, the silhouette of the Octavia remains largely the same. Retaining the original notchback design.

11:10 AM: The wide single unit headlamps at the front have been split into two, the LED DRLs run parallel to the headlamps interjected by a strip of the plastic bumper.

11:05AM: Skoda launched the current generation of the Octavia back in 2013, following which sales for the Octavia had begun tapering Skoda. Which means that the Czech company has a lot of hopes riding on how this facelift performs.

11:00 AM: The new Skoda Octavia will have a wider stance thanks to a redesigned rear bumper, that aside Skoda has also worked on the LED cluster at the rear

10:55 AM: Skoda will also introduce the ParkPilot system on the 2017 Octavia facelift, which assists the driver to manoeuvre the car out of a tight parking spot

10: 50 AM: 2017 Octavia will get active and passive safety aids such as eight airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and brake assist. In addition, it will come equipped with driver aids such as driver fatigue detection system, rear view camera and Hill assist.

10:45 AM: The facelifted Skoda Octavia's higher versions will get a panoramic sunroof, cooled glovebox, Auto Park as well as ambient lighting

10:40 AM: The 2017 Skoda Octavia will get a touchscreen infotainment system, 3-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls for audio, phone as well as cruise control, a piano black finish at the centre console and an automatic climate control

10:35 AM: The 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine in the facelifted Skoda Octavia will produce 148 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.8-litre TSI petrol unit which generates 180 hp of power will be offered with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine will churn out 140 hp of power and 320 Nm of torque. Like the larger capacity petrol engine, the diesel unit will be available with an automatic transmission.

10:30 AM: The facelifted Skoda Octavia's higher version would also be offered with an automatic climate control, hands-free parking as well as safety features which include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and airbags as standard. Higher versions would also get traction control.

10:25 AM: The Skoda Octavia facelift will also be available with ambient lighting which can be adjusted through the infotainment system. In addition, the infotainment system will also have steering mounted audio and phone controls.

10:20 AM: Features inside the Skoda Octavia include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity and other playback options. It also has Smartlink support that mirrors a phone's screen onto the infotainment system for added convenience as well as safety.

10:15 AM: The diesel version's rear track is also increased now as it gets a non-independent torsion beam setup. The rear track is 20 mm more for the diesel trim and 30 mm more for the 1.8-litre petrol version. The pre-facelift Skoda Octavia had a crank axle setup.

10:10 AM: The only mechanical change in the facelifted version of the Skoda Octavia is the increased rear track compared to the pre-facelift version. In order to accommodate a multi-link suspension setup for the 1.8-litre petrol variant, the rear track had to be increased by 30 mm.

10:05 AM: The Skoda Octavia has a reworked rear section as well. The rear bumper has been revised and now makes the car look wider. The tail lamp cluster too has been reworked and houses LEDs

10:00 AM: The facelifted Skoda Octavia will have a reworked front end. This would include new quad headlamps which are now LEDs as opposed to a bi-xenon setup which was in the pre-facelift version. The headlamps also have reworked Daytime Running Lamps

Prices too high. You may get the Jeep Compass at these price points - and that is a very compelling comparison.
