Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to introduce a new MPV that will replace Xylo in its product line up. The manufacturer is testing their new MPV codenamed as the U321 and test mule was spied in Chennai. The new MPV will be based on a monocoque platform and will have same features as in Mahindra's product line up. The new spy shots suggest that the U321 will get projector headlamps with LED DRL's, fog lamps and turned indicators integrated into the ORVM's.
The U321 is expected to be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine and 2.5-litre diesel engine found in the Xylo. In addition, it might get the 1.9 litre and 2.2-litre m-Hawk engine based on XUV 500.The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission and will get 4WD or Front wheel drive configuration.
Mahindra and Mahindra launched the Xylo in 2009 with 2.5L mDI CRDe Turbo Diesel engine in five variants. After its introduction in the market the sales of the Xylo was good, however, at a later stage, the sales declined. In 2012, the Xylo was updated with 2.2 litre m-Hawk turbo diesel, new transmission and a retuned suspension system.
The company is also investing Rs 1,500 crore in its two facilities in Nasik and Iggatpuri for the development and manufacturing of the upcoming MPV. In addition, Mahindra and Mahindra are also planning to introduce the facelifted Scorpio and are planning to launch an electric XUV500 named the Aero.
