Toyota Kirloskar Motors has announced its sales figures for the month of April 2017 which is a total of 14,057 units including exports of 1,109 units compared to a total of 9,507 units in April 2016. The prime contribution of the impressive growth of 52 percent in the domestic market came from the Toyota Fortuner and the Corolla Altis. In six months, the Fortuner has sold 12,200 units and the Corolla Altis has received a good response growing by 76 percent in terms of sales in its segment.
N. Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said,“We have been able to sustain a robust growth in the month of April 2017. This growth has been propelled by the overwhelming response the new Fortuner has received. Ever since its launch in India in 2009, the Fortuner has been an undisputed segment leader. The launch of the new Fortuner has helped us up this ante as the new Fortuner has already sold more than 12,200 units in less than 6 months of its launch. Considering the segment in which the Fortuner is present, this is a great achievement for us.” The Toyota Corolla Altis also witnessed a growth of 75 percent within a month of its launch in March 2017.
The Toyota Innova Crysta, in its latest generation in India, has also received an impressive response, despite carrying a considerably higher retail than its predecessor. In an earlier conversation with The Financial Express, N Raja also pointed out that almost 95 percent of the Toyota Innova Crysta buyers are private owners instead of fleet operators. However, mass market segments such as hatchbacks and entry level sedans continue to dwindle in terms of sales. The Platinum Etios Liva and Platinum Etios sedan witnessed mostly exports from India and weak sales figures.
