Tata Motors' new compact sedan Tigor is all set to be launched on 29th March and the company today opened the bookings officially for the car. Customers can book the Tigor at any Tata dealerships by paying an amount of Rs 5,000. The Tigor, also referred to as a Styleback by the company is the only notchback car in the compact sedan segment in India right now. A unique design not only lends it exclusivity in a design-challenged segment but also could help strike the right chord with young consumers, something Tata Motors has been trying to achieve since long.

The Tigor is based on the Tiago platform and hence it's easy to spot the similarities in terms of design, interiors and powertrain. The Tiago petrol is powered by a three-cylinder 1.2 litre engine, developing 84 hp and 114 Nm of torque. The diesel motor, on the other hand, is a 1,050 cc unit that develops 69 hp and 140 Nm of torque. Both engines come paired to a five-speed manual transmission but there's no automatic gearbox on offer right now. That's a bit surprising because the company provides an AMT unit in the Zest, Tata's another sub-four metre sedan.
The Tigor scores well on the connectivity front with a Harman system that has eight speakers, including four tweeters. The touch screen system has a simple interface and can pair with your mobile phone to display navigation from the phone on to the central screen. It also offers Bluetooth, Aux-in, USB and FM along with two 12V power sockets.
One of the key highlights about the Tigor is its boot space, which is class-leading at 419 litres. In addition, the four-link design instead of the usual gooseneck hinges prevents any intrusion into boot space and maximises usable boot volume. The Tigor is expected to be launched at a starting price of Rs 5.5 lakh and top out at about Rs 8 lakh, which should put it at par with the competition.
