Indian automaker Tata Motors is on a roll and has teased an image of its new vehicle that will make its global debut at its 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Tata Motors will mark its 20th year of participation at 2018 Geneva Motor Show and a report of Autocar India hints that this new vehicle from Tata Motors will be a sedan that makes Tata's entry in the executive sedan space and will rival the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and the upcoming Toyota Yaris.
After showcasing Tata H5X and 45X concept cars at Auto Expo 2018, this will be Tata's yet another surprise in 2018. Tata's new sedan will be based on the company's new Advance Modular Platform (AMP) that also underpins the 45X concept car. Tata Motors' will showcase this sedan at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and expect the design to be based on the new IMPACT 2.0 that was revealed by the management at in Auto Expo 2018. Expect the sedan to be more than sub-4-meter and as long as the existing car in the executive car segment. The design will move away from the traditional three-box shape and will feature a coupe-like roofline giving it a modern look.
Tata Motors is looking to be aggressive and expand its presence in almost all segments. The use of two new platforms will give the company the required versatility in its products. The design will allow the cars to get better wheel sizes and strong fenders and at the same time, the design of the car will not compromise on interior space. Tata's new vehicle will get a spacious cabin, clean dashboard with an infotainment system and key safety features as a standard offering.
Expect powerful versions of Tata's existing Revotron petrol and Revotorq diesel engines to power the Tata's new sedan. The engine will be mated to a manual transmission with an optional AMT or dual-clutch transmission on offer at the launch. The AMP platform might also consider electric powertrain on the car at the time of development and might be rolled out much later. Autocar India's report further adds that the development of this new car will require an investment of about Rs 400 crore and is yet to be approved by the board for production. Tata Motors board is still considering this option and might approve it later.
