Renault's entry level hatch the Kwid has had some tremendous success over the last eleven months, they've managed to sell 1.75 lakh units. To put that in perspective that would mean that 22 Kwids' roll out of a Renault showroom every hour. Recently, prices of the model were slashed in the range of Rs 5,200-29,500 depending on state and variant to pass on benefits of reduced tax after GST implementation. The car is now available at a starting price of Rs 2.62 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). And it's no surprise considering that the entry level market is still quite drab and lacks any cars that have as much character as the Kwid. MD Sumit Sawhney said on crossing the milestone. Since its launch, the company has introduced product enhancements and innovations at regular intervals in keeping with evolving customer behaviour and preferences, he added. Starting with an 800cc model, the Renault quickly added it's 1.0-litre sibling followed by the Kwid Climber which has also seen reasonable success in the field.
The model competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon. Renault India has introduced CLIMBER, targeted at young buyers, and AMT (automated manual transmission) versions of the model. It is available in engine variants of 0.8 litre and 1-litre in both manual transmission and AMT options.
