After a number of speculations, Renault India has silently launched the Duster powered by a petrol engine and mated to a CVT automatic transmission at a price tag of Rs 10.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is the first petrol automatic version of the Duster introduced by the French brand. The SUV was recently spied at a dealership with an 'Xtronic' CVT automatic gearbox and will be available only in the RxS variant. The dealership has also started accepting bookings for the new RxS automatic variant at a token amount of Rs 25,000.

The Duster RxS is powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine that produces 104 hp of power and 142 Nm of torque, and has a claimed fuel efficiency 13.06 kmpl. The car gets a black front grille, 16 inch alloy wheels, black cladding, rear wiper with defogger and roof rails. On the inside, it gets a seven inch touch screen with Audio, Video as well as Navigation. In terms of safety, the new variant will get dual airbags and ABS as standard fitment. The diesel AMT automatic version, however, is also offered with traction control system.

The RxS variant will be available in 7 colour options of Fiery Red, Pearl White, Moonlight Silver, Outback Bronze, Woodland Brown, Slate Grey and Cayenne Orange. The soon to be launched automatic variant of the petrol Duster will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta.

Renault India first launched the Duster in 2012, since then the SUV has garnered reasonable sales. Recently, the manufacturer updated the RxS variant with touch screen infotainment system and dual front airbags. The Duster is available with a 1.6 litre K4M petrol engine and a 1.5 dCi engine, the latter is available in two states of tune, 85 hp and 110 hp. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic (AMT) gearbox with 2WD and all-wheel drive configurations.

With a marginal difference in the prices of petrol and diesel fuel, particularly in urban areas like NCR, the popularity of petrol SUVs has increased. This has also encouraged manufacturers to introduce petrol versions with convenience features like automatic transmission. With the introduction of the Duster petrol automatic in the model's portfolio, the company can expect an even better sales figure for the SUV in the country.
