German luxury carmaker's India division, Audi will be headed by Rahil Ansari from February 2017. He will take up the responsibility from the incumbent Joe King who will return to the German headquarters. Thierry Lespiaucq, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited (VWGSIPL) said, “We are pleased to announce the new Head for Audi India, Rahil Ansari. He has previously served as Director of Network Development for Audi India and thus brings appreciation to this market. His diverse global experience combined with the understanding of the Indian market will help in consolidating the brand presence.”
In September 2016, Audi India had suspended the production of its Q5 SUV due to higher than permissible emission levels of Nitrogen Oxide. Air trapped in the coolant system triggered the higher emissions and the company had stopped assembly of the car until the time the issue was resolved. Dealers were also instructed not to accept bookings amount of the Q5 for the specified period. The car's issue has now been resolved and bookings for the same have commenced again.
Currently, Audi India sells the A3, A3 Cabriolet, A4, A6, S5, Q3, Q5, Q7, RS6 Avant, RS7 and R8 in the country. That said, major launches from the Ingolstadt-based carmaker weren't many and some performance oriented cars such as the RS7 Performance which is priced at Rs 1.59 crore, ex-showroom Delhi.
