Nissan Micra in June, 2016, was exported in numbers larger than any other car from the country, making it the most exported car from the country. 6,807 units of the Micra were shipped during June, taking the total exports number since 2010 to more than 6,20,000. The Japanese company also revealed that the contribution made by Micra in terms of foreign exchange to the economy is more than 30,000 crore.
Manufactured at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, Chennai, the Micra is exported to more than 100 countries. The Micra also helped Nissan become the top-selling Asian car brand in Europe in FY 2015, primarily on the back of the model's popularity in the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. Commenting on the development, Guillaume Sicard, President, Nissan India Operations said, “Nissan is proud our Made in India Nissan Micra was the most exported car in June, and proud of our contribution to the country’s economy. Our strategy has been to use exports to build a significant presence in India with our plant, the largest and most advanced in the Alliance, and our R&D centre which employs five thousand engineers.”
