New Volkswagen Polo spied, to be showcased at Frankfurt Motor show

The new Polo will based on MQB platform and has received major changes on the exterior and has a more sharper design.

A new Polo has been spied testing in Africa, which suggests Volkswagen is set to bring in the sixth generation of the hatchback. The new Polo will be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it is expected to launch later this year. According to the images, the new Polo will based on MQB platform and has received major changes on the exterior and has a more sharper design. On the front, the new Polo gets new headlamps, redesigned grille and restyled bumper with fog lamps. At the rear, the car has been given redesigned tail lamps, spoiler and  restyled bumper.

Under the bonnet, the new Polo's petrol variants are expected to come with two engine options - a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbochraged unit and a 1.5 litre unit. The diesel variant of Polo will be powered by 1.6 litre engine that produces 79 hp of power and 108Nm of torque. The new Polo will recieve three tunes of transmission- 5 speed or 6 speed manual or a 7 speed DSG gearbox.

Inside the cabin, the new car is likely to get touchscreen infotainment system, new instrument cluster and parking sensors. In terms of safety, it gets ABS with EBD and dual airbags as standard.

In India, Volkswagen Polo is currently offered with a 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.5 litre diesel engine. It is sold at a price range of Rs 5.45 lakh to Rs 9.40 lakh. The German manufacturer is expected to bring the new Polo to the country in 2018, however it will likely carry the same engines as the current one.
