The new 2017 Toyota Corolla Altis will get seven airbags and will be offered in four trims.Toyota Kirloskar Motors will launch the new Corolla Altis in India with cosmetic enhancements on 15th March, 2017. The car manufacturer has also started accepting booking for the upcoming sedan at a minimum amount of Rs 50,000, confirmed a source closed to the launch process. The new Toyota Corolla Altis is likely to be powered by the same engine options as found in the current model. The car will be available in four trims in both manual and automatic versions, namely, J, G, GL and VL. Cars are expected to reach the company dealerships soon, indicating quick commencement of deliveries after the official launch.

The Corolla Altis will get a 1.8 litre VVT petrol engine that produces 138 hp of power at 6,400 rpm and 173 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The unit will be paired to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed CVT-i (Continuously Variable Transmission). The diesel variants will be powered by a 1.4 litre D-4D unit that develops 87 hp at 3,800 rpm and 205 Nm of torque between 1,800 and 2,800 rpm. The diesel motor will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Since there isn't going to be any significant change in the vehicle's weight, we do not expect the engines to offer a different state of tune as well.

The Toyota Corolla Altis will get new features on the exterior such as bi-beam full LED headlamps with DRLs (Daytime Running lamps) and a revised front bumper. At the rear, the company has offered the sedan with redesigned LED tail lamps and new bumper along with newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels. These features will be available in higher versions of the sedan. The top-end will also get leather seat upholstery and a new Sport driving mode for better throttle response.

The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system will feature navigation, Bluetooth and voice command, which is will be carried forward from the current model. The base variant, on the other hand, will be offered with fabric seat upholstery and restyled bumpers. The base version will miss out alloy wheels. Instead, it will get 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers.

In terms of safety, the Corolla Altis top versions will be equipped with seven airbags, ABS (Antilock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) reverse parking camera and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). The lower trims will get three airbags (Driver, co-driver and driver knee airbags) along with ABS and EDB as standard.

The current Toyota Corolla Altis starts at Rs 13.78 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. However, the new Toyota Corolla Altis will be costlier and is expected to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom. When launched, the Corolla Altis will compete with the likes of the new Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Octavia and Chevrolet Cruze.

Given the fact that the Elnatra is a new model and has raised the benchmark in the segment on the features and convenience front, it's imperative for Toyota to not only price the variants well but also package them with enough features to attract potential consumers.
