Mercedes-Benz will expand its E-Class LWB (Long Wheelbase) range by adding the new E220 d diesel variant tomorrow. Currently, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in two trims, namely; the E200 petrol and the E350 d diesel, priced at Rs 56.7 lakh and Rs 70.15 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, respectively. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class E220d is expected to be priced close to the E200 variant and will be positioned against the BMW 5 Series, Volvo S90, Audi A6 and the Jaguar XF.
The new E-Class E220 d will be powered by a smaller displacement diesel engine, which is a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit. The turbocharged engine will produce around 187 hp of power and churn out a peak torque of 400 Nm and will be paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Like other variants on offer, the new small diesel version will also get an Air Body Control self-levelling suspension with adaptive damping technology that will enhance the ride as well as driving dynamics.
In terms of features, the new E220 d will get more or less similar equipment as that of other variants. It will be equipped with a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The infotainment system will feature COMAND ONLINE and a Burmester 3D-surround sound system that has been jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and Burmester.
The Mercedes-Benz E220 d will measure 5,063 mm in length that will provide additional cabin space, especially at the rear. At the rear, the car manufacturer will also offer other comfort and creature features such as rear seats with a memory function that can save up to three seating positions. The seats can also recline up to 37 degrees.
For the driver's aid, the new E220 d will receive steering wheel with touch controls for navigation, command and audio system along with different driving modes such as Eco, Comfort, Sports, Sports+.
