The Kona will be revealed at the New York auto show in June this year. The SUV will be positioned between the Tuscon and Creta and will compete with Toyota C-HR and Nissan Juke globally. The new teaser shows front fascia of the SUV, which gets a cascading grille and a twin setup of headlamps with LED DRLs.
The Kona will share design cues from i20 and i30 and will get the same engine as in i30. The i30 is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-liter and 1.4-liter petrol, and 1.6-liter diesel engines. It is expected that the SUV might get interiors similar to the i30 as well, such as the touchscreen infotainment system.
South Korean manufacturer, Hyundai plans to introduce 30 new models by 2021 and the company will launch its sub-compact SUV Kona first in the European market, followed by Australia. The SUV has been christened Kona after a holiday destination at the Hawaiian islands.
