BMW has unveiled the new BMW 1-Series sedan at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The new 1-Series has been launched specifically for the Chinese market and has been jointly assembled by BMW and Chinese automaker Briliance. The new 1-Series is based on BMW Group's front-wheel-drive platform, the UKL, which also underpins the X1, 2-Series Active Tourer, Gran Tourer as well as Mini models. The new BMW 1-Series is expected to hit the showrooms in China in mid-2017.

The new BMW 1-Series is powered by three powertrain options. The new 1.5 litre turbocharged inline three-cylinder engine that produces 136 hp of power is equipped in the 118i variant. The 2.0 litre in-line four-cylinder unit powering the 120i trim, develops 192 hp of power, while the range-topping version, the 125i get its power from a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine that produces 231 hp of power. All engines are mated to a 6-speed manual and an optional 8-speed automatic transmission.

The new 1-Series sedan features the signature double-kidney grille and dual round headlamps with LED DRLs. At the rear, the new sedan gets L-shaped tail lamps, dual exhausts and a shark fin antenna. Inside the cabin, the German car manufacturer has equipped the sedan with a black and grey theme and an 8.8 inch LED touchscreen in the centre console, loaded with BMW ConnectedDrive system. The BMW 1-Series also gets coloured Heads-Up Display (HUD), dual-zone climate control and leather seat upholstery. Other standard features include a panoramic sunroof, run-flat tyres, Lane Departure Warning, Collision Warning, Pedestrian Warning and Emergency Assistance.
