Mercedes-Benz' high-performance division, Mercedes-AMG is working on an all-new GLE 63 AMG, a high-performance SUV under the GLE portfolio. The upcoming high-performance SUV will be based on the company's all-new MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform that reduces a considerable amount of weight also improving fuel efficiency. This platform also underpins the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class and S-Class. The new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 will also get a new 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged motor, unlike the 5.5-litre unit that does duty in the current generation. The V8 engine will develop 585 hp of power, while a higher variant could get up to 600 hp of power. It will be paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission that will send power to the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. Undoubtedly, the new motor will also improve the fuel efficiency considering it is smaller than the outgoing engine and based on a lighter platform.

The upcoming GLE 63 SUV will get a fresh design language as well. This would include new headlamps, new tail lamps, bulging wheel arches, new alloy wheels as well as a wider front and rear track dimensions. It is also expected to have a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model making more room inside the cabin. The interior too will get a makeover with AMG features and trims.

Currently, the German carmaker does not sell this particular variant of the GLE model in India, however, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 43 Coupe which is powered by a smaller engine but has a reasonable 367 hp of power compared to its more powerful sibling. Although the company hasn't confirmed the India launch of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe in the country, however, if introduced it would compete with other high-performance SUVs like the 2018 Porsche Macan, the new Range Rover Sport and the BMW X5 M.
