Maruti Ciaz SHVS
Maruti Ciaz is the best fuel efficient car in this list! According to the company, the certified mileage of the sedan is 28.09 km/l. The mild-hybrid Ciaz is powered by the 1248cc, 4-cylinder, diesel SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) engine, seen in other Maruti diesel cars, that produces 89hp of power and 200Nm of torque. The Ciaz SHVS is priced from Rs 7.68 lakh to Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The mild-hybrid system of the Ciaz also gets production subsidies from the Government.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio is one of best selling hatchbacks and the smallest diesel engine, in terms of capacity, in the country. It is powered by a 793cc, two-cylinder setup which produces 47 hp of power and 125 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The company claims that Celerio diesel delivers 27.62 km/l. The price of Celerio ranges between Rs 4.65 lakh and Rs 5.71 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

The Chevrolet Beat is another option that has made our list of most efficient diesel cars in the country. According to the American carmaker, the hatchback has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 25.44 km/l. The Beat diesel is powered by a 1.0-litre engine that produces 57 hp of power and 150 Nm of torque.and starts from Rs 4.85 lakh to Rs 6.35 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi.
Honda re-launched the all new Jazz last year with diesel unit. Incidentally, this is the first diesel engine developed by the Japanese carmaker with the prime focus of garnering more better sales figures in developing countries like India. The all-aluminium unit is 1.5 litre i-DTEC engine that produces 99 hp of power and 200 Nm of torque. Certified mileage of the Honda Jazz in its diesel variants is 27.3 km/l. The premium hatchback competes with Hyundai i20 in its segment and starts from Rs 6.90 lakh to Rs 8.90 lakh,ex-showroom, Delhi.

Tata launched the much-awaited and aggressively priced Tiago in India in petrol and diesel engines. The variants in question here are the ones with a diesel motor under the hood. It powered by an all-new 1.05-litre Revotorq engine which produces 67 hp of power and 140 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox and has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 27.28 km/l. Tata Tiago is priced from Rs 3.90 lakh to Rs 5.50 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
