Mercedes-Benz has expanded its model lineup in India by launching two new models – the C-Class C300 Cabriolet and the S-Class S500 Cabriolet priced at Rs 60 lakh and Rs 2.25 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi, respectively. The new C300 and S500 Cabriolet models are available as a CBU (Completely Built-up Unit).
The C-Class and S-Class share design cues from their sedan versions such as the diamond-finished grille and swept-back LED headlights. Mercedes-Benz has equipped the models with a fabric roof as seen on the E-Class Cabriolet. The roof is made of three-layered fabric material with acoustically optimised seals to reduce wind and road noise level inside the cabin. The models also gets fine mesh wind reflector at the rear. The roofs on both models take 20 seconds to open and close. In order to compensate for the loss of structural rigidity due to a soft top, the A-pillars have been strengthened, leading to increased weight over the three-box versions.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet is powered by a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The engine produces 241 hp of power and 370 Nm of torque and is paired to a 9-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The car can accelerate to 100 km/h from a standstill in 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. The S-Class Cabriolet gets a bigger 4.7 litre V8 bi-turbo petrol unit that generates 443 hp of power and 700 Nm of torque and is also mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The S500 takes 4.6 seconds for the 0 to 100 km/h sprint and has an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The C300 and S500 are equipped with standard features including Burmester 3D sound system with metal finished speakers and a 12.3-inch touch screen. The vehicles also get a heated steering wheel and heated/cooled driver seat wrapped in Nappa leather, while the dashboard features Black Piano Lacquer wood trim. The C-Class and S-Class Cabriolet also feature 19-inch alloy wheels, AIRMATIC suspension with level adjustment and Adaptive Damping System. Adding to the driver's safety and convenience is a 360-degree camera and a HUD (Head-Up Display) that projects optimum information on the windshield. There is also a host of safety equipment offered on the Cabriolet models such as active blind spot assist, collision warning, attention assist and autonomous braking.
The S-Class Cabriolet has borrowed its interior design from the coupe version. The C300 and S500 are equipped with the THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system, which keeps the cabin temperature optimised even if the roof is open. The system also detects whether the roof is up or down and adjusts the temperature accordingly and also prevents misting. The company is also offering more than 13,000 customisation options for the S-Class Cabriolet to ensure that no two cars are the same.
