There is no denying the fact that we love our cars if they are big in size. And this is even more evident with luxury car manufacturers foraying their entire portfolio for their potential buyers in the country. German carmaker, Mercedes-Benz has introduced the GLS 400 4MATIC to its model range in India at a price tag of Rs 82.90 Lakh. Since its introduction, the GLS range has been one of the most appraised by Indian customers. So much so, that this country is one of the top ten markets for the GLS SUV. On the occasion, Roland Folger, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “With the launch of the GLS 400 4MATIC, we have now completed our petrol portfolio for the Indian market. The introduction of the GLS 400 4MATIC is a strategic move as it gives the customers the flexibility to choose between the petrol and the diesel variants of their popular SUV. The GLS offers its occupants class leading luxury experience that no other full-size luxury SUV can match in this segment. This is also the fifth SUV variant we introduced this year, further bolstering our SUV portfolio which remains the most comprehensive in the luxury car segment. Our SUV segment has seen the maximum growth for the past two years and we are confident that this trend will continue.”
Powering the leviathan GLS 400 4MATIC is a 3.0-litre naturally-aspirated V6 motor that generates 333hp of max power from 5,250 rpm to 6,000 rpm and 480Nm of peak torque from 1,600 rpm to 4,000 rpm. For a car that weighs almost two-tonnes, these figures are impressive and translate into a top speed of 240 kmph. Power is sent to an adaptive all-wheel-drive system via a 9-speed 9GTRONIC automatic transmission. The GLS 400 4MATIC like most other SUVs from Mercedes-Benz would have different driving modes namely – Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Individual, and Off-road to cater to the various terrains it may have to witness. Although, most buyers of a luxury car would surely refrain from doing so, but knowing the GL moniker and the company's rich hertitage in off-roading vehicles, tackling tough terrain in a GLS petrol would be a cakewalk. Along with DYNAMIC SELECT function, the SUV also boasts of a number of safety features as standard such as the PRE-SAFE system, BAS Brake Assist, ESP with Curve Dynamic Assist and cruise control. Other safety features include 'electronic crumple zones' along with airbags for all occupants of the vehicle.
In terms of convenience, the Mercedes-Benz GLS 400 4MATIC gets COMAND online integrated with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with Apple CarPlay, Panoramic sunroof and memory package for driver and passenger.
