Hyundai Creta has dominated the Indian SUV segment since its launch, as it rocketed to the leadership spot shortly after its launch. However Maruti Suzuki has reclaimed the top spot from Hyundai as the Vitara Brezza overtook the Creta in total sales in the month of July, 2016. Vitara Brezza found 10,232 customers in the month of July, 2016, while Hyundai moved out 7,981 units of the Creta from its showrooms. The effect of Vitara Brezza's popularity helped propel the company's UV segment to a growth of 151.3% at 17,382 units over the month of July in 2015. The entire UV range of Maruti Suzuki includes the Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Ertiga and Gypsy but more than 10,000 units of the 17,000 + total were accounted by Vitara Brezza alone, highlighting the popularity of the compact SUV.
At these numbers too, Maruti Suzuki is facing supply constraints as demand has exceeded its initial expectations for the Vitara Brezza. In order to meet the backlog of orders, Maruti Suzuki had earlier announced that it's increasing its production capacity for the Vitara Brezza and the Baleno. This proves that the numbers for Vitara Brezza could rise further as the waiting period comes down. The company should find itself in an easier spot once the upcoming plant in Gujarat goes live early next year.
