Maruti Suzuki Swift beats Alto as the highest-selling car in India

In total, seven models of the company are in the top 10 best selling models with the remaining three spots taken by its competitor Hyundai Motor India (HMIL).

Maruti Suzuki's Swift has overtaken the Alto as the country's highest-selling car in the month of April, according to the data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). In total, seven models of the company are in the top 10 best selling models with the remaining three spots taken by its competitor Hyundai Motor India (HMIL). Surprisingly, the Swift is set to be replaced by a new-generation model early next year but that doesn't seem to be having any effect on the car's popularity. Swift registered an increase of 51.98 percent in sales with 23,802 units sold in April this year as compared to 15,661 units in same period.
The entry level car, Alto is positioned at second place and sales of the car have gone up by 35.97 percent. Maruti Suzuki sold 22,549 units of Alto in April 2017 against 16,853 units same period last year. The hatchback Baleno which was at 8th position last year is now at 3rd position this year as the company sold 17,530 units in April 2017 as compared to 9,562 units in 2016 April.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is the 4th best selling model in the list as manufacturer sold 16,348 units in April this year against 15,323 units last year. Hyundai hatchback Elite i20 has maintained its 5th position with 12,668 units this year as compared to 11,147 units last year, while Grandi10 is at 6th position with 12,001 units as compared to 9,840 units in the same month last year.

The seventh best selling model is Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza with 10,653 units, followed by Hyundai's Creta with 9,213 units at the 8th position. The Dzire tour ranked 9th in the best selling model list with 8,606 units sold in April this year, while the Celerio hatchback took 10th position with 8,425 units in 2017 April.

Maruti Suzuki launched the new Dzire this month and the car has received major updates at the interior and exterior. Since its official bookings started the sub-compact sedan has got immense response for the customers with 33,000 bookings. With this kind of a start the new Dzire could soon elevate itself in the sales chart and possibly come in the top 5 spots.
