Maruti Suzuki could soon equip its upcoming cars with premium audio systems from Harman Kardon, as reported on team-bhp. The first car to get a Harman Kardon audio system could be the upcoming Ignis compact crossover, which is slated for a launch this year. Nothing on this matter has been confirmed by Maruti Suzuki yet. Harman Kardon is a US-based manufacturer of premium audio systems for automotive and home applications. The company also owns brands such as Bang & Olufsen, which supplies audio systems to brands such as BMW, Volvo, Audi among many others.
The likelihood of Harman Kardon in Maruti Suzuki cars isn't unlikely since Tata Motors had earlier launched a Harman Kardon audio system in its Zest and Bolt cars. The American company has in recent past been focusing on expanding its penetration in developing markets such as India. In order to do so, the company has developed a range of low-cost products that retain some key features from the high-end versions.
The likelihood of these systems getting fitted onto entry-level cars such as Alto and Celerio is slim at best, given the cost-constraints these models face. However, cars such as the Ignis and upcoming models to be sold through the Nexa retail chain could feature Harman Kardon systems. There is no word yet on the configuration of the system to be used in the Maruti Suzuki cars. However, we expect these systems to offer colour-display and navigation along with the usual entertainment and connectivity options.
