Maruti Suzuki Celerio X (cross) is just a few days away from its launch. While Maruti is yet to comment on when the exact date of the launch the internet seems to have information that Maruti’s upcoming crossover hatch is likely to launch this festive season. The Maruti Celerio X was caught on the test by Team-BHP while in process of a commercial shoot. There are yet to be too many details on exactly what will be a part of the Celerio X’s package, it’s likely to follow on the lines of the Kwid Climber. Which is essentially an entry-level hatch with some plastic cladding and raised ride height, sharing most of its mechanical bits with the basic Celerio hatch. The cross version of the hatchback will get a redesigned bumper at the front and rear and black cladding on sides. In addition, it is expected that the Celerio X will get tweaked suspension to increase the ground clearance. The Celerio X will get the same powertrain as in the standard version of Celerio. It will be powered by a 998cc, K-series petrol engine that produces 67 hp of power and 90 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and AMT automatic transmission. According to another leaked ARAI Docket, the Celerio X will be available in 8 variants, Vxi, Vxi(O), Zxi, Zxi(O), Vxi(AMT), Vxi(O)(AMT), Zxi(AMT), Zxi(O)(AMT). ABS and dual-airbags will be standard features on the Celerio X.
When it was launched the Celerio received a fair response from consumers. Even Maruti’s uber efficient Celerio Diesel failed to impress. This rejig of its design might be exactly what the Celerio needed to give it a new lease on life. Not to mention bigger sales figures, especially considering how well the Indian consumer tends to respond to these “cross” styled hatchbacks
As for the prices, the Celerio X is likely to be introduced slightly higher than the current version of the Celerio, which is priced at Rs 4.05 lakh to Rs 5.25 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. We would hypothesize then a Rs 50,000 premium for cross variants. When launched the Celerio X will compete with the likes of Renault’s Kwid Climber.
