Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch its much-awaited Baleno RS on March 3, 2017 and showrooms have started accepting the booking of the hatchback. According to a NEXA dealership, the Baleno RS can be booked for an amount of Rs 11,000 and is expected to be launch at a price of approximately Rs 9 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The hatchback will be available only in the top end Alpha variant, however, it will get the 1.0 litre Boosterjet petrol engine and few cosmetic tweaks.
The engine will develop 100 hp of power at 5,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque between 1,700 and 4,500 rpm in the Baleno RS. This motor will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission only. In terms of design changes on the outside, the Baleno RS will get a new mesh grille, a new front bumper with front fog lamps, projector headlamps with LED daytime running lamps at the front. The rear gets a redesigned bumper and RS badging. The Baleno RS is expected to weight around 950 kg which will be lighter than the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI which has a minimum kerb weight of 1,109 kg.
Inside, the hatchback will get dual-tone seat upholstery with RS logo, RS branded door sill plates, steel pedals, rain sensing wipers, automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors with camera, electrically retractable and adjustable ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Unlike other models of the Baleno currently on sale, the touchscreen infotainment unit may also support Android Auto along with Apple CarPlay.
The safety package of the Baleno RS would include dual front airbags and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) with disc brakes on all wheels. If the company launches the Baleno RS at Rs 9 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi it will be a stiff competition, particularly to the Volkswagen GT TSI.
