Mahindra and Mahindra has announced that the Mahindra XUV500 and Scorpio will now be available with Google's Android Auto technology. For this, Mahindra and Mahindra has associated with the Open Automotive Alliance (OAA), a global alliance of vehicle manufacturers, committed to bringing the Android platform to cars.

With the help of Android Auto, users can connect their smartphone and tablets to the vehicle's infotainment system. This will enhance the safety due to lesser distractions and ease driving by allowing the drivers to access maps through voice commands or via switches and buttons mounted on the steering wheel. According to the company, the Google Android Auto will also be made available in the future vehicles soon.

The Android Auto is compatible on aftermarket radio and Android phones running 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher. The maps let the users know of information such as live traffic and lane guidance with free voice-guided navigation. The Google Android Auto also offers 90 days Play Music with over 30 million songs to listen as well as stream music while on the go. When the users connect their Android phone to the compatible vehicle or audio system, Android Auto displays applications on the vehicle’s screen. Android Auto also lets you make phone calls or send and receive messages with just a voice command. The Android Auto can be used online as well as offline, adding to the convenience of the occupants.

The technology is claimed to be safe and protects all the apps by regularly monitoring the apps and detects if any app is not working properly. It also keeps all your data safe such as photos, contact or your location. The users can also set a lock screen or can erase the data on their device if the phone is stolen. Many carmakers have also equipped their vehicles with Google Android Auto like Audi, Bentley, Chevrolet, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jeep, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz.

Speaking on the announcement, Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “We are happy to be part of the OAA and being the first Indian OEM to be part of this prestigious global alliance, it is indeed a moment we are proud of. At Mahindra we have always been committed to introducing newer technological offerings in our vehicles in an endeavour to create an enriched user experience and provide better value technologies to our customers. Going forward, after successful integration, we will be offering Android Auto in our flagship models of XUV 500 and the Scorpio as well as on our future platforms. I am confident that this will help us in taking a quantum leap in offering connectivity solutions to our customers.”

Currently, Mahindra offers its vehicles with the BLUE SENSE APP that enables the drivers to connect to the vehicle using Bluetooth. However, with the new Android Auto technology, the users can access Google Maps and other specially designed Google services as well in addition to other third party apps through the in-built infotainment touch screen.
