Mahindra XUV500 facelift on the cards, launch expected in 2018

The current version of the Mahindra XUV500 is offered with two diesel engine options, a 1.99 litre mHawk -- available only in the Delhi NCR -- and a 2.2-litre mHawk unit.

Mahindra and Mahindra are working on a facelifted version of the XUV500 -- according to Autocar India -- the SUV will get cosmetic changes and a power bump.It is expected that the facelifted XUV500 will get a retuned version of the 2.2-litre engine that will increase power and torque figures. The new engine is expected to produce 170 hp of power and 400Nm of torque. In 2015, the XUV500 was given a minor facelift on the inside and the exterior.

The current version of the Mahindra XUV500 is offered with two diesel engine options, a 1.99 litre mHawk -- available only in the Delhi NCR --  and a 2.2-litre mHawk unit. They generate the same power and torque of 140 hp and 320 Nm respectively. These engines are mated to a 5-speed manual and have an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.

Mahindra and Mahindra are working towards electric mobility as well and is planning to introduce electric vehicles and an electric XUV Aero 500. In addition, the company is also working towards an electric car that can travel up to 300 km on a single charge. The prototype SUV-Coupe Crossover based on the XUV500 --  the Aero -- was designed by Italian design firm Pininfarina and will be manufactured by Mahindra.

The car manufacturer will also introduce a new MPV that will replace Xylo replacement is codenamed the U321. The new MPV will be based on a monocoque platform and will have same features as Mahindra's product line up.
