Mahindra working on Scorpio facelift, test vehicle spied

The next gen Scorpio engine is expected to be available with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It is internally called the Z101.

Mahindra and Mahindra are working on the facelifted version of the Scorpio as a test mule has been spied testing in Karnataka. According to images taken by Autocar India, the facelifted Scorpio will receive a host of cosmetic changes both front and rear, however, the side profile is likely to remain the same as the existing version. In addition, it is expected that the new Scorpio may get a 2.2-litre m-Hawk engine that will be retuned for better power and torque figures. The next gen Scorpio engine is expected to be available with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It is internally called the Z101. The facelifted Scorpio will be introduced globally in markets like North America and Europe.
Mahindra and Mahindra launched the Scorpio in 2002. Since then it went on to become one of the most popular SUVs among customers in India. Now the company is planning to launch the fourth generation Scorpio soon. Based on the new design and architecture, the SUV concept design is likely to have been carried out at the North American Centre, and engineering and other processes at Mahindra's Research and Development centre in Chennai.


The current version of Mahindra Scorpio comes with three diesel engine options - a 2.2 litre, 1.99 litre and a 2.5 litre. The 2.2 litre and 1.99-litre m-Hawk engines produce 122 hp of power and 280 Nm of torque, while 2.5 litre m2DICR engine comes with micro hybrid technology that produces 76 hp of power and 200 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and automatic transmission. The current version of the Scorpio is priced at Rs 9.40 lakh- Rs 14.60 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. Expect teh new Scorpio to be priced slightly above the current generation.
