In a bid to further increase its market share in the entry-level SUV segment, Mahindra & Mahindra launched yet another sub-compact SUV in the country - Mahindra NuvoSport in the price range of Rs 7.35 lakh - Rs 9.76 lakh (ex-showroom, Thane).

The leading SUV maker already sells KUV100 and TUV300 in the Indian market, and the Mahindra NuvoSport is now the company's third product in the sub-4 metre SUV space. For people not in the know, the NuvoSport has come as a replacement to the slow-selling Mahidndra Quanto.

Besides new design elements, what makes the Mahindra NuvoSport different from the Quanto is the fact that it is based on the new-generation Scorpio's platform and not the Xylo on which the Quanto was built. The new platform will surely help the NuvoSport drive much better than the Quanto. Mahindra NuvoSport has been designed by the company's in-house design team, while the research & development activities were carried out at Mahindra Research Vallery in Chennai.

Coming to the design, the Mahindra NuvoSport has a completely new front fascia thanks to the narrower grille, larger airdam, revised bumper, all-new headlights, new fog lamps and eyebrow-shaped daytime running lights. While the vehicle's front profile looks quite new, the side & rear profiles might still remind you of the Quanto.

Along with the platform, the Mahindra NuvoSport might also get a new engine - a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder mHawk80 - which is the same that does duty in the TUV300. This powertrain comes with two driving models - Eco (Economy) and PWR (Power). This engine churns out 71.6bhp and 180Nm in the Eco mode, and 100bhp and 240Nm in the PWR mode. The purpose of two power modes is to offer both high fuel efficiency and performance.

Mahindra should work on offering higher fuel efficiency if they really mean business. Maruti, ford are offering efficiencies of 22-24 kmpl whereas 17.45 kmpl doesn't stand anywhere!!!
