Volkswagen Tiguan launched in India today: specs, prices and features

German carmaker's premium SUV offering, the Volkswagen Tiguan, is being introduced in the Indian car market today. Here are the live updates from the venue on the variants, specifications, features and pricing

Volkswagen's much-awaited SUV, the Tiguan is being introduced in the Indian market today and prices of the premium offering from the German carmaker will be announced today. This will be the flagship SUV from the company and interested customers can head to the nearest Volkswagen showroom with a booking amount of Rs 1 lakh. Prices, specifications and features will be revealed shortly as we bring you the live updates from the venue.

12:28 pm: The Volkswagen Tiguan has a five-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash rating tests and it is the first production by the German carmaker based on the MQB platform

12:19 pm: Volkswagen has launched the Tiguan at a price of Rs 27.68 lakh and Rs 31.04 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai

12:13 pm: Assembly of the Volkswagen Tiguan will take place at the company's Aurangabad facility

12:08pm: The Volkswagen Tiguan has a boot volume of 615 litres which can be increased to 1,655 litres with the rear seat folded

12:05 pm:The two trims, Comfortline and Highline will be available with LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps. However, the Highline trim will also be offered with LED tail lamps

11:56 am: Unlike previous speculations, the Volkswagen Tiguan will be available only with the 2.0 litre diesel engine option mated only to the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission

 

11:53 am: The Volkswagen Tiguan will be available in 5 exterior colours, Indium Grey, Tungsten Silver, Atlantic Blue, Deep Black and Oryx White

11:46 am: The driver assist functions available in the SUV will get emergency braking system, pedestrian monitoring system and automatic post-collision braking are likely to feature on higher trims.

11:36 am: Safety features will include ABS (Antilock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and airbags as standard.

11:32 am: The Volkswagen Tiguan will be available with an ECO driving mode, Hill Descent Control (HDC), paddle shifters, speed sensitive power steering as well as a driver alert system.

11:25 am: The Volkswagen Tiguan measures 4,486 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width, 2,095 mm in height and will have a wheelbase of 2,677 mm.

11:15 am: Inside the cabin, the Tiguan will boast of a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system with Mirrorlink as well as Bluetooth connectivity and a five seater option

11:06 am: The Volkswagen Tiguan will travel on 17 inch and 18 inch alloy wheel, depending on the variants

11:01am: In addition to the aforementioned features, the Tiguan will get chrome accents on the window lining, roof rails, multi spoke alloy wheels, roof mounted spoiler and underbody skid plate.

10:55am: The Tiguan will to be available in two variants, Comfortline and Highline. The SUV will get LED headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), alloy wheels, leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel and a 3-zone air conditioning system with rear controls.

10:47am: The Tiguan is expected be powered by a 2.0 litre TDI, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that will generate 190 hp of power and 400 Nm of torque. A petrol engine expected to be a 1.4 litre TSI petrol unit that will develop 147 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The company will offer the engine with a choice of both, manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. There will also be a 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system available on select variants

10:41 am: Volkswagen Tiguan will be based on the company's popular MQB (Modularer Querbaukasten) platform. The platform will help the car to shed up to 50 kg over the current model sold internationally
