The performance oriented, but affordable hatchback segment is a niche space and there aren't many players in the country at the time being. However, the cars present have proven to be impressive in the performance department and today the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and the Fiat Abarth Punto will face another competitor in the form of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS. Powered by an all-new Boosterjet engine, this is the first time the Indian carmaker is introducing something that is not focussed on performance and not just fuel-efficiency.

5:50 pm: Suspension duties are done by McPherson strut at front and torsion beam at rear. The hatchback has a fuel tank capacity of 37 litres
5:45 pm: The Baleno RS will measure 3,995 mm in length, 1,745 mm in width, 1,510mm in height and 2,520 mm of wheelbase.
5: 40 pm: The RS is equipped with disc brakes on all wheels and has a kerb weight of 950 kg.
5: 37 pm : Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will get body coloured ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) and bumpers, chrome accent on the front grille, a roof spoiler and LED tail lamps
5: 30 pm: The Baleno RS will get projector headlamps with LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), black alloy wheels, blackened pillars, ultra voilet cut glass at front and rear.
5: 25 pm: Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will be powered by a new 1.0 litre, three-cylinder, Boosterjet unit that will produce 100 hp of power at 5,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque between 1,700 and 4,500 rpm. This engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission
5: 20 pm: Maruti Suzuki had teased an image of the Boosterjet engine on its NEXA Facebook page, as this will be the first time the company is using Boosterjet engine in one of its cars.
5:15 pm: The Baleno RS design will be based on the Baleno, but it will get minor cosmetic updates inside and outside
5:10 pm: The company has also started taking bookings of the Baleno RS at an amount of Rs 11,000 and the car can also be booked online on the official website.
