While most manufacturers chose to drop new vehicles on the populace in stately star hotels, usually followed by lunch. The entire experience is sedentary, at best. Usually, involving a bunch of overworked journos walking around the car, phone in hand delivering pseudo passionate speeches on what’s new and what’s not. Jaguar, however, took that rule book and tore it to shreds. Literally launching their E-pace into the market over a ramp, twisting through the air and ending up in the Guinness book of world record. Bah ! You say! Humbug, this is nothing but click-bait! A marketing ploy at its best. And yes that’s what it is. Un-ashamedly but still beautiful. Remember, they could’ve spent about the same thing on a few expensive hotel lobbies.
What they did instead went to the ExCeL convention centre in London rent out an arena and get the E-pace and their go-to stunt technician Terry Grant into the Guinness Book of world records, by doing the longest barrel roll in a production car. Which by the way saw the E-pace barrel rolling a properly brilliant 15.3 meters and spinning almost 270 degrees while at it. Only to land mid 360 on a precisely crafted ramp on the other side. A stunt through which driver Terry Grant experienced an intense 5.5Gs. To put that in perspective astronauts experience about 3gs while exiting the lower layer of the atmosphere, and they are trained to withstand about 4 Gs!
“If it was an easy stunt, many other people before me would have done it,” Is what Terry had to say once the stunt was done
And with that, Jaguar’s new cub the E-pace made its way into the world of production automobiles. If you want a cub in India however, you’ll probably have to wait until late next year. Until then watch this video:
