New offering from the Korean carmaker will fill the gap between the Creta and Santa Fe

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has introduced the much-awaited Tucson SUV with an introductory starting price tag of Rs 18.99 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The new offering will fill the price difference between the Creta and Santa Fe. The Tucson brand is being introduced for the second time in India and is presently in its third generation. The Tucson now comes with a host of features and is powered by one diesel and one petrol engine. While the petrol engine, borrowed from the Elantra, is the 2.0-litre Nu unit, the diesel is an all-new 2.0-litre e-VGT motor for India. The petrol engine generates 153 hp of power at 6,200 rpm and 192 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm while the diesel engine churns out 183 hp of power at 4,000 rpm and an impressive 400 Nm of torque. Both engines have the option of 6-speed automatic and manual transmissions. Claimed fuel efficiency figures for the 6-speed manual version is 13.03 km/l and for the diesel is a first-in-segment 18.42 km/l. For the 6-speed automatic petrol trim, the claimed mileage is 12.95 km/l and for the diesel trims are 16.36 km/l. That said, there is no all-wheel-drive option on offer in the line-up but there are different driving modes to choose from.

The Hyundai Tucson is designed on the company's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 and has first-in-segment dual barrel LED headlamp unit with static bending, fog lamps with Daytime Running lamps, twin chrome exhausts and puddle lamps. While all versions will be available with alloy wheels, the manual transmissions options will come with 17-inch units and the automatic transmission options will have an 18-inch one.

The five-seater SUV will boast of a number of features on the Inside. It will come with an 8-inch infotainment system that will also support, audio, video and navigation with steering mounted audio controls and cruise controls on all trims. The system will also support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to seamlessly integrate a smartphone into the infotainment system. Safety features on the Tucson will include ABS (Anti-locking Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), dual front airbags and reverse parking camera with rear sensors on all versions while the top-end 2WD AT GLS variant will also have front parking sensors (first-in-segment), HAC (Hill-start Assist Control), DBC (Downhill Brake Control), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), front side and curtain airbags. The Hyundai Tucson has a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

The top-end variant will also have additional convenience features like hands-free tailgate opening, electric parking brake, automatic climate controls with rear AC vents and electrically adjustable driver's seat. Standard features would include electrically foldable, adjustable and heated ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors), automatic headlamps with escort function, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, cooled glovebox and a welcome function.
